NETHERTON PARK HEALTHY HUB

BUILDING PROPOSAL

Dudley’s Healthy Towns programme, entitled ‘Let’s Go Outside’ aims to
encourage families to make the most of outdoor areas by transforming parks,
play areas, and nature reserves into ‘family health hubs’. The hubs will,
through a programme of activities and events, promote healthy lifestyles for
all ages and help prevent the growing levels of obesity in the borough.
Physical changes created through the funding will include
developments on parks to provide, outdoor gyms, toilets, indoor spaces, cycle
storage, notice boards and signage. All the Hub sites will have work done to
be compliant with the Disability
Discrimination Act. Activity programmes will also be set up in parks such as
led walks, cycle trails, community event days, sports coaching, multi-skills
sessions, and a whole host of other activities.
Safe, active travel connections will be created to join people’s homes to the
health hubs. The ‘active travel corridors’ will be
created by adding signage, crossings, cycle storage to existing routes and the
establishment of brand new routes.
By transforming the physical appearance, the social environment and access to
open spaces, the scheme would also aim to tackle the fear of crime and
anti-social behaviour which can prevent
children, families and older people from using open spaces in the borough.
